Communication has one universal truth:
We are constantly handed information that is way more confusing than it needs to be. And somehow…we’re the ones who have to make it sound human.
Here’s the AI hack that saves me hours: The “Clarity Pass”
Whenever I’m given something long, technical, or overly complicated - a memo, a report, a project update, a staff summary - I paste it into AI and say:
“Rewrite this in clear, friendly language at middle school reading level. Keep all the relevant and factual information.”
Then I ask for:
a one-sentence summary
a social media-ready version •
a FAQ section
three alternative explanations
a “why this matters to my audience”
In seconds, I get:
a clean version
a simple version
a social version
talking points
backup options
This is efficiency - not shortcuts.
Always remember to keep the human in loop (as my friend Joanne Sweeney says!) and proofread for clarity and accuracy before sending it out.
The Clarity Pass is now my nonnegotiable.
Friendly reminder! Don’t put any information that is confidential into any LLM (large language model like ChatGPT).
